If you've recently installed a new kernel, VMware tools may be out of date or not match your running kernel, and this can cause the APMI shutdown command to not work correctly. Run /usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl from inside the OS to update the daemon. If you don't have VMware Tools installed please refer to our Installing VMware Tools guide for more information, as this daemon is required by our Terms of Service.
